Message from the President

Long before COVID-19 arrived on Alberta’s doorstep, the safety of our Hindu Society of Calgary members and employees alike—was our top priority: because Hindu Society of Calgary promise to “protect the things that matter most” begins with the people who make up this amazing community of ours. It’s why we made the unprecedented decision to close our Hindu Society of Calgary eight weeks ago. We believe it was the right thing to do, and we’ve been so grateful for your support.

As we prepare to welcome you back into our Hindu Society of Calgary after we discuss with our executive members and Board of Trustees and the date of opening with the guide lines of Alberta health services, municipal and provincial, in accordance with Alberta’s relaunch strategy, I want you to know that you can absolutely count on that commitment to safety. You can expect the same great service you’re used to, just delivered in a slightly different way. We’ve put in place new ways of working to
ensure appropriate physical distancing and have implemented new safety protocols with everyone’s wellbeing as our primary concern.

The next time you visit Hindu Society of Calgary, you’ll notice the following:

Limited entry:
To respect physical distancing, a limited number of members will be allowed inside our Temple at a time. We’ll have greeters stationed near entrances to guide the queuing process (as needed) and are happy to assist mobility-challenged members who’d prefer to wait in their vehicles. We want you to feel as safe and comfortable as possible when you visit your temple.
Distanced queue
Increased sanitation: We continue to enforce heightened sanitation practices, which includes—but isn’t limited to—hand sanitizer upon entry, disinfecting hands.
The front door will be open so nobody touches the door handle and patrons will have darshan from far and leave parsad in the box.
Restricted self-service: To help keep you safe, we’ve suspended handing over parsad. Nobody will be allowed to touch deities at all. All alter doors will be closed at all times.
I’d like to thank you in advance for your patience as we adjust to these changes. but I assure you we’ll do everything we can to help you as quickly—and safely—as possible.

And remember, if you’re not comfortable visiting us in person, we’re still available to serve you over the phone, email and all donations can be made by mailing cheques in favor of Hindu Society of Calgary or call at 403-291-2551 from 10.30 am to 3.30 PM for donations by phone or to participate in Sunday Hawan.

This is an exciting time for us. We’re proud to help our Hindu Society of Calgary members and patrons “reopen” and to play our part in making things better for everyone—from the state of the economy, to the ease of doing everyday business, to the improved wellbeing that comes from social interaction (even at a distance). We’ve heard your support for this decision loud and clear and look forward to giving our
“new normal” a warm HSC welcome.

We can’t wait to see you back in our Hindu Society of Calgary. It hasn’t been the same without you!

Keep well, and stay tuned for further message.
